Martin Landis, Sr., was allowed, at age 15, to join the Union effort at Camp Curtin, Harrisburg,\u00a0 He was mustered into the 187<sup>th<\/sup> Regiment, Pennsylvania Voluntary Infantry.\u00a0\u00a0 In 1865, he was assigned as a guard overseeing the body of Abraham Lincoln.\u00a0 In 1907, when he reached the age of 59, this Civil War veteran\u2019s young wife gave birth to young Martin.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On Father\u2019s Day, Sunday, June 17, 2001, young Martin, now age 94, joyously consented to become a member of the Sons of Union Veteran<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-53 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/suvcwharrisburgpa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/3Ceremonyscene-300x202.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"510\" height=\"343\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.suvcwharrisburgpa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/3Ceremonyscene-300x202.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.suvcwharrisburgpa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/3Ceremonyscene-768x518.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.suvcwharrisburgpa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/3Ceremonyscene.jpg 872w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 510px) 100vw, 510px\" \/>s of the Civil War.\u00a0\u00a0 At the National Civil War Museum, high atop Reservoir Park, Harrisburg, Brother Landis and other volunteers were administered the oath of membership into the General John F. Hartranft, Camp 15, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, of the Capital City, by Camp Chaplain, David W. Demmy, Sr<strong>.\u00a0\u00a0 Brother Landis exclaimed, \u201cI should have done this back in \u20184<\/strong><strong>9\u201d. <\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0He is the only known living son or daughter of a Civil War veteran in Central Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n<p>Camp member, Floyd J. Demmy\u2019s cousin, Richard Sheaffer of Waynesboro, Virginia, [formerly of Penbrook] was among the other men that joined the Capital City Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War on this Father\u2019s Day, 2001.\u00a0 Richard\u2019s childhood friend, Gilbert Kyle, joined Camp 15 on the same day as Brother Floyd Demmy.<\/p>\n<p>The Demmy\u2019s and Sheaffer are descendants of David and Levi Demmy, members of Company C, 127th Regiment, Pennsylvania Voluntary Infantry.\u00a0 Brother Kyle\u2019s great \u2013 great, grandfather, was a drummer boy in the 187<sup>th<\/sup> Regiment Pennsylvania Voluntary Infantry.\u00a0\u00a0 His restored drum is on loan to the State Museum in Harrisburg.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-54 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/suvcwharrisburgpa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/9_demmy_congratulates_landis-300x203.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"356\" height=\"241\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.suvcwharrisburgpa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/9_demmy_congratulates_landis-300x203.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.suvcwharrisburgpa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/9_demmy_congratulates_landis.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 356px) 100vw, 356px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Chaplain David W. Demmy congratulates Camp 15\u2019s Real Son<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The Reverend A.
